Bird Spotting

Image
The tiny Wren. Beautiful song. Thankful for a couple of these to be nesting in our garden this year. Fascinating to watch them as they build their nest.  Out on a walk spotted a group of these lovely Redwings. Constantly noisy and sometimes difficult to spot is the Chiff Chaff. Not  known to sing unless they are at least five metres high in a tree top. Another bird that goes mainly unnoticed due to its really good camouflage is the Tree Creeper. An unusual little bird with extra large feet for climbing trees. It also has a long thin beak. And even more Woodpeckers. They are doing really well this year.

Abandoned?

Image
It seems that after completing a nice little nest, the female has vanished! Not seen her for about two weeks. Either she has fallen prey to a Sparrow Hawk or Cat, or she has simply found another partner and moved to pastures new. It really is a mystery! The poor little male is still around and he roosts at night in his normal place in another box in the garden. It is a crying shame for this male because last year he managed to mate and had about a dozen eggs in a nest, until it was raided and the nest was pulled out of the box and the eggs smashed. Not sure of the culprits but I suspect Sparrows or a Magpie may have done the damage. This will be the second year he has been unsuccessful. 😒😒

Blue Tits Nesting

Image
So it's nesting season for the birds and it seems Blue Tits have taken an interest in our camera box in the garden. Here's a short video and a couple of snapshots of the activity  👌
