It must have happened overnight or at least early this morning. Chicks at last! I don't think they are all hatched yet though. Both parents are very busy working together now to feed them all.
During the course of Friday morning, two of the chicks left the nest and took cover on the ground nearby. There's plenty of cover from ferns and bamboo. I managed to snap them before they disappeared for good! That left this one on his own, a bit like Kevin in Home Alone. He managed to get out earlier this morning. He's about a day behind the others so has to do some catching up. The parents still come to feed them on the ground.
Winter is well and truly on its way. It is getting really cold now. With no leaves on the trees you get to see more bird activity though. There seems to be more tits than I've seen before in the garden. A mixture of Blue Tits, Coal Tits, Great Tits and Longtail Tits. We try to keep them fed. Along with everything else, you can get quite a show most days. Occasional visitors are Black Caps. This one looks like a young female because the cap is brown rather than black. Beautiful! I've also noticed a Gold Crest popping in and out. I'll see if I can get a snap of it for the next post.
I've tried for so long to capture this owl, but this is the best I have been able to get. They make so much noise at night!. I'm guessing this is the male because I can hear the female calling in the distance. I think they are Tawny Owls, comparing their calls to ones I've listened to on websites.
